Show Industrial Board good, but neecb to 'keep going It was wejl over a decade ago that the giant headline on the front page of The Iron County Record announced the groundbreaking for an industrial park west of Cedar City. Since that time, the subject of industrial development in the City and Iron County has sprung up from time to time, but somehow things have never quite got rolling. Now the ball has landed squarely in the laps of the newly-formed Cedar City Chamber of Commerce Industrial Board. This time, we hope the ball keeps rolling. We commend the Board for forming. We commend com-mend the City and the County for cooperating and donating money. We commend the individuals involved. However, the formation of a Board, as proven by past attempts, does not somehow magically bring industry to the area. Thus, we will be watching over the next couple of years to see what happens. And we have some suggestions as to how to make things happen. Brochures alone will not work. We suggest that the Board get in touch with some of the businessmen and other civic-minded people in the area and ask for their assistance. These are the people that can sell Iron County. If the Board would supply travel expenses, many of these people would volunteer their time in directly contacting industries throughout the United States and selling Iron County to them. Afterall, they have been selling the County in many ways for many years. So again, we commend those involved, but we ask that, this time, the ball rolls steadily and quickly. The Board is currently organizing thoughts and actions and will accept input from others. The executive committee is made up of Weldon Bittick, Eldon Schmutz, Steve Thomas, Harold Hiskey, James L. Clark and S. Garth Jones. |
