Show Matheson postpones legislative session Governor Scott M. Matheson late last week announced that he will postpone a special session of the Utah Legislature in light of information that has recently become available. No date has been set for the session. Lower Medicaid expenditures ex-penditures resulting from the elimination of AFDC-V AFDC-V families from Medicaid eligiblity are a major reason for the Governor's action. The AFDC-U program was eliminated July 1, 1981. Based on this new information, in-formation, the Governor haii requested the Utah Stai'e Department of Heai'th to immediately reinstate the 213 patients who were to be eliminated from the intermediate care facility secondar.y level of nursing nur-sing home care and to continue the optional medicah'y needy category. Governor Matheson indicated the following factors influenced his decision to not seek additional ad-ditional Medicaid funding at this time: his recent meetings with Reagan Administration officials at the National Governors Gover-nors Association meeting in Atlantic City, briefings on major provisions of the Federal Budget Reconciliation Conference Con-ference Agreement on Medicaid and information in-formation from the Department of Health following the close-out of the previous fiscal year. The department's preadmission pre-admission screening of Meriicaid-eligible patients before they enter nursing homes is successfully suc-cessfully identifying less costly alternatives with associated cost savings. |
