Show Utah Board of Regents Judd named acting president : C 'm . .i V v Council members at the meting but was excused on other business. Witnessed the swearing in of Lorraine Warren as a new member of the Council. Warren is the new Alumni Association representative to the body. Frank Petty, Dale Zabriskie and James Hoyle were all sworn in for second terms on the Council. Petty was also elected chairman and Hoyle vice-chairman vice-chairman of the Council. Granted favor on Daphne Dalley doing research and a project on sexual harrassment, forming programs and policies on the matter, lor the Institutional In-stitutional Council to examine. The Regents have requested all state schools develop a firm policy on harassment. Approved an undergraduate certificate cer-tificate in public administration. The certificate would be inter-disciplinary in nature and would increase em-payability em-payability of students according to Dr. Harl Judd. The Regents must give final approval to the program. Recommended hiring policies be regularly evaluated with regards to hiring several family members at the school. Concern was expressed by several members of the Council at hiring of several members from the same family at the school and also too Hurl Judd Dr. Harl Judd was appointed acting president of Southern Utah State College by the Utah State Board of Regents Monday. In making the appointment, the Regents acted on an earlier recommendation recom-mendation from theSUSC Institutional Council. Judd is dean of the School of Science at Southern Utah State and is currently functioning as acting vice-president of the institution. "1 feel very glad about the support I've had from those who wanted me to take the job," said Judd. "I appreciate their confidence.-" ' Judd said that with a new incoming vice-president, he hopes to help make the transition to new college leadership as smooth as possible. "I have no grandiose plans, 1 hope to help move the college forward," explained Judd. The interim president will officially assume duties on August 1 . According to Doug Thompson, director of public relations for SUSC, Judd will fill the role as president lor a minimum of three to four months, possibly longer. Tenure of Judd's presidential responsibilities will depend on how rapidly the search for a new president progresses. The Regents were slated to name a presidential search committee Monday at their summer retreat in Cedar City but did not do so. Acting Utah State Commissioner of Higher Education Arvo VanAlstyne and newly appointed chairman of the Board of Regents Kern Gardner both committed com-mitted Monday to act on the matter of a search committee quickly, according to Thompson. . In other SUSC related matters, the Institutional Council Friday Approved the appointment of Dr. Terry Alger as new academic vice-president. vice-president. Alger was slated to meet many faculty members with in-state degrees. Trends in both these areas will be monitored. Heard a report from Dean Sterling Church on summer school enrollment. ( 'urrent enrollment is 479, compared to :33 last summer. This year's summer program is only operating on 80 percent of last year's, however. |
