Show Recreation Committee plans new facilities The Cedar City Recreation Committee met last week and finalized a proposal with the Iron County School District to pursue development and maintenance of the Cedar High School ballfield c onplex. The proposal is pending District ap-" ap-" proval. According to Steve Hodson, City recreation director, three T-Ball s j m fields will be fully developed, including fully chalked and marked fields and dirt infields installed. Hodson also said development will begin on a Pony League size park. The field would be used for softball and Senior Little League. "There are just too many teams on the current softball field," explained Hodson. He also pointed out that ballplayers going from Little League into Senior Little League make a tremendous leap from a small field to a Major League size park. A intermediate in-termediate size facility would be better suited for Senior Little Leaguers. Part of the development develop-ment plan includes not only improving the fields already at the high school, but also removing the weeds in the vacant field just east of the CHS football stadium and planting grass in that area. Hodson said he hopes to see planting begin in that area next year. Several new fields would result in a couple of years. In other recreation related activity, Cedar City will soon have lighted tennis courts, according to Hodson. There are four courts being built near the Cedar Junior High School which could possibly be lit; if they 're not, two new courts might be constructed con-structed with lighting at the Canyon Park or the two courts at the downtown park could possibly be resurfaced and have new lighting installed. The City will wait for advisement on the matter to see which route would be most economical. In a final item, beginning this year the adult baseball program will be under Cedar City jurisdiction. The City will operate the league as it does its softball, T-Ball and other recreation programs. |
