Show IRON COUNTY RECORD January 22, 1981 B3 Parowan grapplers 2nd at Mesquite meet MESQUITE, Nev. -Parowan High School's wrestling team turned in its second strong tournament tour-nament performance in a row, taking second at the Virgin Valley Invitational Saturday. , "It was sort of a catchall catch-all tournament," said PHS coach Scott Doubek of the tourney, which included five schools and several independent wrestlers. . Moapa Valley High of Overton, Nev., took the tournament with 156 points, followed by Parowan at 104. The Hurricane JV squad . placed third with 102, followed by Indian Springs at 74 and host Virgin Valley at 64' 2. Of the eight Ram wrestlers competing, six placed first or second. Kandy Robinson (119 pounds) took his second tournament championship cham-pionship in a row and continued his hot streak, pinning Leavitt of Moapa Valley at 4:18 of his championship match. The second gold medal came to Wayne Moss ( 145 ) , who was awarded a three-point nearfall with just two seconds remaining to pull out a 9-8 win over Reber of Virgin Valley. Moss trailed Reber 6-0 alter one round and 8-3 alter two, but managed two nea rial Is in the final round to get the win. Todd Robinson (185), for the second week in a row, defaulted his championship match because of ankle problems. The state title contender had won both his matches that week, but couldn't answer the bell for his championship match. Other seconds were earned by Parowan grapplers Greg Judd (98), Shawn Spendlove H05) and Devon Lawrence (112). That action followed an earlier dual match, where the Rams dropped a 54-9 verdict to the Region 12's top squad, North Sevier. Rather than the four classes typically forfeited, for-feited, Doubek found himself without seven wrestlers for that match. Spendlove suffered a freak accident and Chad Robinson and Danny Carter (167) had the flu, and all three did not wrestle. Of the live Rams competing, two came .away with wins. Randy Robinson defeated Jason Stowe 3-2 in his match. Stowe had lost only once this year before the match with Robinson. Todd Robinson finished Moky Christensen in just 1:07 of his match. Parowan, with just one tie (to Panguitch) in dual matches, but with solid tournament per-formances per-formances of late, have three duals, against Piute, Milford and Milford left. - " -1 Kelly Orton (52) tries a drive inside against Milford as Brooke Bentley (34) looks on.
