Show IRams tough for 3; lose down stretch IKANAB Parowan proved it could stick with a good team on the road-for road-for three and a half quarters. The Ram basketball team put together a representative showing for that long before being i burned 65-56 down the stretch by the Kanab Cowboys. The teams looked virtually equal for a half. The score was tied 15-15 after one quarter and 30-30 30-30 at the half. Kanab opened up a three to five point lead over the next 12 or so minutes before the string that clinched the home victory for the Cowboys. That final-quarter surge, oddly enough, was led by Jim Robertson, who came off the bench !and hit four quick jumpers jum-pers in a row. "Robertson beat us without a doubt," 1 lamented coach Ralph Riggs. "The fellow we I had defending him had his mind inside, so Robertson just hit from outside." Parowan was at a disadvantage going in, for they were missing the services of sparkplug guard Doug Hermansen, who was down with chicken pox. He was replaced by Robbie Stevens, who had a fine game. Stevens ended up with 12 points, and as the centerpiece of Parowan's pressing defense, five steals. "Robbie was the most outstanding of our players," said Riggs. "Not having Doug (Hermansen) hurt us, but mostly in not having that sixth man able to come off the bench and contribute. con-tribute. The kids got pretty tired down the stretch." Riggs was somewhat satisfied, even in defeat. "Our kids really played pretty well. I think we're a comparable team to Kanab. The difference is they seem to be able to win when it counts." Kanab is now 4-1 in Region 12, their only loss coming to North Sevier at Salina. The loss dropped the Rams to 2-3 in Region 12, 5-6 overall. "Alter seeing both of them," Riggs said, "I now feel that Beaver is the strongest team in Region 12." The Beavers and Cowboys are tied for the regional lead, both with just one loss.
