Show T-gals seeking wins A host of problems need to be ironed out before the women's basketball team at Southern Utah State College will be as tough is coach Joy Peterson wants it to be. The Thunderiurd women will try to improve im-prove their performances on the road this week. Thursday the 'Birds will I at Hicks College, Friday they move down the road to Idaho State University. Then Tuesday the team heads south to challenge Dixie College. "Actually, despite the problems we are having, there are some improvements im-provements being made." Peterson ex plains. "Linda Whetton and Joyce Hickman are beginning to assume leadership roles, and Gloria Grover and Hickman Hick-man are becoming stronger rebounders." Peterson ranks . turnovers tur-novers , as the team's number one problem, other areas of concern include "deplorable free throw shooting," too many louls, and a lack of team cohesiveness. Despite all those woes, the 'Birds have won four games while losing three. In Kocky Mountain Athletic Conference, action, SUSC is 1-0. "We know that Ricks has a pretty fair team. They are tall, and we are not," Peterson says. "That's a concern." Idaho State is a Division I school playing in a strong league and is expected to be very strong. "Dixie has a pair of players that we must contain if we are to win," Peterson says. "Casandra Adams and Jill Katich are quick guards who can score. If we can shut them doown, our chances of winning will be much better." The T-Birds have been hampered by a lingering case of the flu to center Rosemary Jacklin. "We don't have much height to begin with, and with Rose sick, it hurts us," Peterson says. |
