Show , Vt A Hi lit v" David Carter Kyle Kingsford Carter, Kingsford get nod as Cedar's top players Though responsible for 19 tackles, Kingsford was a headache on several other Cavemen plays, penetrating the backfield and causing rushed passes or broken plays. He was the central figure in Cedar's thrilling goalline stand in the ..first period, with the game still scoreless. Kingsford also kicked off, and did something very much unlike a typical placekicker. An American Fork returner took a Kingsford kickoff on the 10-yard line and ran right into Kingsford.. .on the 16-yard line! Kingsford was near or in the action in most plays, even though he was hobbled somewhat most of the second half on a sore ankle. Congratulations to Carter and Kingsford. The duo, and all winners of this year's "Player of the Week," will receive a certificate from the Iron County Record, commemorating their feat. Cedar High quarterback David Carter and middle linebacker Kyle Kingsford have been named co-players co-players of the week by the Iron County Record. Both played key roles in Cedar's 19-7 upset win over American Fork Friday night. Kingsford and Carter, both seniors, are the Cedar co-captains, and both appeared to take their "leader" roles quite seriously. Carter, though given little time to operate his offense, engineered several outstanding plays under extreme pressure. He completed just 6-of-l9 passes for 70 yards, some of those incompleted in-completed passes being dropped by receivers. But it was on the ground where Carter made a big difference, and frustrated the Cavemen defense. On one typical play, Carter seemed trapped for a certain sack in the end zone and a safety, but rather turned a 21-yard gain and a big first down. Carter also came up with a beautiful interception in the fourth quarter, with Cedar leading just 12-7, and AF driving hard for the Cedar goal. And, if that weren't enough, a Carter punt pinned AF deep in its own territory in the second quarter. Just a few plays later, a pressured AF quarterback threw an interception from his end zone, leading to Cedar's first touchdown. touch-down. If Carter mobilized the offensive forces in the second half, Kingsford kept the Redmen in the game in the first half, when AF dominated offensively. |
