Show 'Meet the Candidates 'planned The Cedar City Chamber of Commerce will have a "Meet the Candidates" program at their regular membership mem-bership meeting at noon Sept. 4 at the Sugarloaf Cafe. Candidates featured will include those running for Utah State Senator and for two seats on the Iron County Commission. Incumbent Senator Ivan Matheson will square off against challenger Garn Huskinson. The two are running on the Republican ticket for Utah State Senator from the 29th District, representing Iron, Washington, Kane, Garfield and Beaver counties. Two Republicans running for a two-year seat on the Iron County Commission will discuss the issues pertaining to the county. Wayne Smith and Howard Knight have both filed for the seat, which Commissioner James L. Clark an nounced earlier he wouldn't seek. A twist of fate changed Clark's plans, and he has since decided to run for the two remaining years in the four-year term vacated by the death of Commissioner H. Grant Seaman. He will be opposed on the Republican side by Dennis Rowley and on the Democratic side by Loraine Juvelin and Ran Anker. All four will be featured at the meeting. Commissioner Dee Cowan is running unopposed for the other four-year seat and thus won't be taking part at the luncheon. |
