Show Poll of Cedar Shows Support of UP and Lin Area received in response to the question of whether or not a municipal system would or would not provide the most economical power rates for area residents. The final tally was 42.9 percent felt that it would with 41.6 percent saying that it would not and 15.4 percent having no opinion. 51.9 percent of the respondents felt that UP & L would provide better service while 33.2 percent said that it would not and again a large percentage per-centage of respondents had no opinion-14.9 percent. . When questioned on long term sources of power, 34.7 percent felt that the Federation would be this best source with 45.5 percent feeling that it would not and 19.8 percent having no opinion. 27 percent of those surveyed said that their opinions concerning "who should provide the power" had changed in the past three months.with 40.9 percent saying that their opinions had not changed and 32.1 percent responding as "uncertain." . 55.3 percent of the 389 area residents sampled in a survey taken by telephone favor Utah Power and Light's purchase of CPNational's power system in the Cedar City area. 35.2 percent of the respondents favored a municipally owned and operated system with the difference between the two responses being 20.1 percent. 4.8 percent of those sampled favored CPN's continuation of running run-ning the local electrical system while 4.7 percent had no preference among the three alternatives. The study was "formulated, supervised and summarized" by Southern Utah State College Professors Craig Jones and Keith Anderson. The results of the survey were announced on Tuesday afternoon af-ternoon and the sample was taken Wed. and Thur. evenings last week and last Sat. afternoon. 55 percent of the respondents were female and 45 percent were male. All respondents were supposed to be 18 or older and the breakdown was 27.8 percent in the 18 through 29 age group; 29.8 percent in the 30 through 40 age group; 19.5 percent in the 45 through 59 age group and 22.9 percent in the 60 and over age group. Response to the question of whether the purchase of CPN's system by UP & L would or would not reduce power rates by more than 10 percent had 41. percent of the response voicing that it would, 47.6 percent feeling that it would not and 10.8 percent had no opinion, . close percentages were also |
