The Board plans to spend $12 billion over the next ten years on new construction. With the possibility of year round school sessions, geothermal geo-thermal ground water heat pump offers heating and cooling from one system. This is one aspect that the Board is very interested in. There is a possibility that a generic heat pump feasibility feasi-bility study may be conducted con-ducted for the Board by this office. Where possible, the Board may consider co-locating new schools with geothermal geo-thermal resources. Meetings Meet-ings are planned In the next few months to determine what level of service this office may be to the School Board. i GRC BASIN AND RANGE SECTION NEWS The Rocky Mountain Basin Ba-sin and Range Section of the Geothermal Resources Council held its meeting recently. re-cently. Peter Murphy, of the Utah Geological and Mineral Survey, addressed the meeting. Mr. Murphy has been involved in the Resource Re-source Assessment phase of the state geothermal program. pro-gram. He spoke of geothermal geo-thermal energy In general in the state and detailed some information about Crystal Hot Springs in South Salt Lake County. Mr. Murphy leaves the UGMS this month to join Fugro, Inc. The local lo-cal section holds Its luncheon lunch-eon meeting the second Friday Fri-day of each month. Any interested in-terested persons are invited invit-ed to attend. UTAH LEGISLATURE WILL CONSIDER GEOTHERMAL BILL The Geothermal Conservation Conser-vation Act will be introduced intro-duced in the State Legislature Legisla-ture In January. It assigns regulatory authority of geothermal geo-thermal emergytotheDivis-ion emergytotheDivis-ion of Water Rights. It also allows for the assignment of correlative rights in relation rela-tion to geothermal energy and gives the State Engineer the authority to unitize a geothermal resource in order ord-er to preserve the rights of users and to assure the full and beneficial use of the energy. If the act becomes law, geothermal energy would be defined as temperatures tempera-tures in the earth above 120C (245F). Water at temperatures below that point would be regulated according ac-cording to water law as determined de-termined by the State Engineer. |
