The Forest Service, United States Department of Agriculture is responsible for preparing this plan with you the public participating. ! It is of upmost importance that the planning effort address your items (issues) which need to be resolved. The effort is beginning and through this notice your help is requested. PROPOSED ACTION In 1 976, Congress passed the National Forest Management Act (NFM A) which outlined specific actions to be taken by all National Forests. One of these actions was for each National Forest to prepare a Land and Resource Management Plan and accompanying Environmental Impact Statement. The Fishlake National Forest Plan, when completed will provide land management direction to the year 2030. The plan will establish target levels for providing such goods and services as timber, wildlife, and recreation from the Fishlake National Forest. STEPS REQUIRED TO PREPARE THE PLAN Nine logical planning steps are listed in the federal regulations for implementing NFMA and the National Environmental En-vironmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA). Each of the planning steps has many substeps which are open to public review and comment. The Regional Forester of the Intermountain Region, has both review and final approval authority for the Forest Plan.
