Show INTERIM PAYNENTS An interim payment of more than $186 million is being made to 38 states and Puerto Rico as a major part of their shares of revenue from the sale and use of National Forest products and services during fiscal 1979. By law, 25 of the revenue collected by the ForestServ-ice ForestServ-ice from timber sales, grazing, graz-ing, recreation, mineral and land use charges are returned re-turned to the states where the 189 million acres of Na-i tional Forest System lands are located. The funds are to be used for public schools and roads. "This is the first year in which we have made an interim in-terim payment of 75 of the estimated total amount owed to each state. In the past we issued an estimate of the total owed to each state in May, but the states did not receive actual payment until December 1. Interim payments to Inter -mountain States are: Idaho -$9,785,000; Nevada -$198,-000; Utah - $719,000; Wyoming Wyo-ming - $887,000. |
