Show Harriott Masts 1981 MgGt Congressman ' Dan Marriott Mar-riott (R-Utah) strongly criticized crit-icized a fiscal 1980 budget, passed by the House, calling call-ing it the worst in history. He released the following statement: "The House passed probably prob-ably the worst budget resolution reso-lution in the history of the country today. It's going to continue to increase deficit spending since we'll be spending about $30 billion bil-lion a year more than we are taking in. In the last two years we have overspent our budget by $60 billion. "There Is no spending limitation li-mitation plan at all in this budget. There is no cutback cut-back in fraud, abuse, or mismanagement, which we estimate is somewhere between be-tween $11 billion and $20 billion. "National defense spending spend-ing is even with the 1958 lever, while transfer payments pay-ments and spending for social so-cial welfare programs have . tripled. "In addition to that the federal debt is at an all time high of $882 billion or about $4000 for every person per-son in the U.S. Interest on the debt alone is $66 billion, and represents a tax burden of 11 85 for every family in this country. In other words, we've spent $4 billion a month more than we said we would four months ago. "All in all, it's abaddeal. I had no choice but to vote against it." $2 million'grans. . . . The Department of Energy has awarded a $2,080,030 grant to the University of Utah to study coal liquefaction, liquefact-ion, announced Congressman Congress-man Dan Marriott (R-Utah). "Coal liquefaction is the process of making oil from coal. It could provide a ' significant portion of our future energy supply. Development De-velopment of the process will be vital to the commercial success of this synthetic fuel alternative. I'm pleased the University of Utah will be on the leading edge of this research." |
