Show GLEN CANYON PLAN READY FOR REVIEW The National park Service Serv-ice announced today that the General Management Plan, Wilderness Proposal and Road Study for Glen Canyon National Recreation Area is now available for public re -view. The plan proposes that the requirements to ' administer, ad-minister, protect and develop de-velop the national recreation area be met by dividing it into four major zones. One such zone, a proposed natural zone, would consist con-sist of approximately 54 of the 1,225,000 acre area. It would include most of the primitive character lands bordering Lake Powell. Some 585,855 acres of this zone are recommended for Congressional designation as wilderness. Also recommended recom-mended are 48,955 acres for potential wilderness additions. ad-ditions. Uses in the natural zone would be those not requiring re-quiring vehicles (hiking, riding, ri-ding, backpacking and swim -ming). A proposed recreation and resource utilization zone would comprise about 45 of the recreation area including inclu-ding Lake Powell. Motorized Mo-torized vehicle use, including includ-ing boating, would be encouraged encour-aged in this area. This zone would also include transportation transpor-tation and utility corridors. Among the corridors being considered is a possible scenic sce-nic route from Glen Canyon Can-yon City to Bullfrog Basin. The remaining lands would be divided between a proposed pro-posed development zone and a cultural zone. The development zone would include Glen Canyon Dam and all structures that support recreational services: serv-ices: ranger stations, visitor visit-or centers, concession buildings, comfort stations and roads and marinas. The cultural zone would contain historic and archeo-logic archeo-logic features which would be protected and interpreted. Comments on the General Management Plan and the Final Fi-nal Environmental Assessment Assess-ment will be accepted until August 11, 1979 by the Superintendent, Super-intendent, Glen Canyon National Na-tional Recreation Area, P.O.
