Show Spray codling ( moth Grant Esplin, Beaver County agent reports that many people are calling and asking about spraying apple trees to control codlingmoth and about controling dandelions dande-lions in lawns. The codling moth lays its eggs on the apple tree. The eggs hatch into a larva, the larva bores into the apple and is commonly known as the apple worm. To prevent wormy apples a regular reg-ular spraying program must be followed throughout the summer. Diazionon is the most commonly used and readily available insecticide insecti-cide for use. The first spray is recommended 3 weeks after bloom. Do not spray during bloom as the bees which are essential forpoli-nation forpoli-nation will be killed. Spraying Spray-ing needs to be repeated each 14 days through August 20th. Diazionon 25 E.C. should be mixed at the rate of 2 teaspoons per gallon of water. Imidan may ho iised if available and should be repeated every 18 days for the same time period. |
