Show UP to spend 90.6 million for now cars Union Pacific Railroad said it plans to spend at least $90;680,000.00 for new freight cars, auto racks, cabooses ca-booses and ballast cars for 1970. The purchase price includes in-cludes the cost of buying cars from suppliers and the cost of constructing cars at Union Pacific's car building build-ing facility in Portland. The purchase breaks down in this manner: 425 covered hoppers 150 auto racks 100 flat cars 600 bathtub gondolas 1,050 open top hoppers Making a total of 2,32iJ cars at a cost of $78,152,-500.00. $78,152,-500.00. The balance of the funds will cover 100 cabooses for $6,000,000.00 and 175 open top hopper cars for track ballast (ground rock and gravel used under the rails) for $6,527,-500.00. $6,527,-500.00. In addition, the railroad has also approved the purchase pur-chase of 200 truck trailers to be used in piggyback shipments ship-ments for $2,220,000.00. Union Pacific earlier announced an-nounced it would purchase 150 new locomotives in 1979 at a cost of about $104,000,-000.00. |
