Show Llilford UJoather Station again on Carter hit list The Milford Weather Station is threatened with closure on October 1 once again. Word was received last Friday from Rex Warner, Deputy Director, that the Milford Station is on the list for closure. The station was threatened with closure last year, but thousands of letters from local residents, pilots and others who use the local station weather information, and the strong support of the Utah Congressional Delegation Dele-gation reversed the decision. Seventeen stations are on the . list in the Western Region, according to Warner. War-ner. They include Milford, Blue Canyon, California; Burns, Oregon; Elko, Nevada; Havre, Montana; Kalispell, Montana; Long Beach, California; Cali-fornia; Lewiston, Idaho; Mt. Shasta, California; Oakland, Oak-land, California; Olympia, Washington; Salem, Oregon; Sandberg, California; Santa Maria, California; Sexton Summit, Oregon; Stampede Pass, Washington; and Stockton, California. This time the National Weather Service seems willing to sacrifice Milford, Blue Canyon, Burns, Elko, Mt. Shasta, Sandberg, Sexton Summit and Stampede Pass provided they can keep the other stations open. The Milford station is important im-portant not only to local residents, farmers and pilots, but also is the only station strategically located to serve commercial flights. Milford is approximately halfway between Denver and Los Angeles, and Salt Lake City and Las Vegas. Those interested in maintaining main-taining the Milford Weather Station should write Congressman Marriott, 1610 Longworth Building, Washington, Wash-ington, D.C. 20515; Senator Hatch, Senate Office Building, Build-ing, Washington, D.C. 20510 or Senator Garn, Senate Office Of-fice Building, Washington, D.C. 20510. Only decisive action by Congress will reverse re-verse the decision to close these stations. |
