Show W Uso season is over. 0 - By Saturday night the fourth annual Beaver County Fair will be history. But, you've still time to get your entries in until noon Thursday (today) August 9th. We urge everyone to participate par-ticipate in this county wide event. It's your fair! If you haven't been to the fair in past years, you don't know what you've missed. Beaver County has some very talented people and home makers. You'll be amazed at what they produce. And the best is on display at the County Fair. 0 - Anyone who tells you that he enjoys a cold shower every morning will lie about other things, too. 0 - Had a feller the other day tell me, "I enjoy your paper, but I don't agree with your politics." We have no doubts that moist COUNTY NEWS readers read-ers have caregotized my politics. But we find it diffi- " -cult to place ourselves into a particular mold. Certainly we are neither Democrat or Republican. We could be called a Constitutionalist Con-stitutionalist or Conservative. Conserva-tive. But those parties that profess to be one or the other oth-er tend to move too far in one direction. Their self styled leaders are often radical ra-dical to the extreme, and are more interested in gaining individual power, than in the welfare of the county. o We are sure that there is great merit in affiliating with a national party and maintaining main-taining the two party system , which is the basis for our political system. But until one com es up with a mold we can subscribe to we will have to be listed list-ed as an independent and continue to vote for the candidate can-didate who best reflects our views, regardless of his party par-ty affiliation. o A child's definition of an adult is someone who's stopped growing, except in the middle. - 0 - There were a lot of strangers strang-ers in town over the weekend They really weren't strangers strang-ers because they all graduated grad-uated from MHS back in the thirties. We enjoyed talking to the ones who stopped in the office. of-fice. They all reported a great time visiting and getting get-ting reacquainted. There were approximately 150 in attendance. - 0 - Most communities have an annual celebration that draws former residents home for a few days. Milford Mil-ford has nothing except Ju-. Ju-. ly 24th, which is greatly overshadowed ov-ershadowed by Beaver's celebration. Milford put on a good show for the Centennial and again for the UJS. Bicentennial, and that proves that they have the know how. All that's needed is one good, solid organization to coordinate an annual effort, and other groups that pitch in and help out. Is there one organization of the many in town that would tackle an annual event? - 0 -Milford will reach another milestone in history in 1980. That will be the 100th anniversary an-niversary of the coming of the railroad. It's not too early to begin planning for that now. Any takers? 0 - Movies will reach a new high in realism when the detective de-tective following a suspect can't find a place to park his car. - 0 Coach Hillock says he has 21 boys out for football and hopes to get one more. Almost Al-most half are freshmen, so he'll be fielding a team without much depth. It's difficult to be competitive compet-itive with less than 40 boys. Most schools in the league have a turnout of 70-100, and are able to have both varsity var-sity and Jr. Varsity teams. 0 - But the die is cast! The School Board bowed to a few rabid fans, who insisted that Milford continue football and that's the way it will be. It's difficult to give any activity up but there's little doubt that Milford would have been wise to have dropped football this year and got into a fall baseball league, or other activity. But it's too late now and even if football were dropped Milford couldn't break into another activity schedule. - 0 - We are sure that Coach Hillock and the team will give a 100 percent against almost insurmountable odds. We hope those never say die fans will back them a 100 percent. We hope that the team can survive the sea -son without serious injuries, many of which will be the result re-sult of too few giving too much. At this point there seems to this writer, to be only one solution to play competitive football this year. That would be to forfeit the league lea-gue schedule and instead play the other schools Jr. Varsity. Var-sity. But we carry no illusions that this will be done. The School Board is committed, the fans would never agree, and the team at this point is willing. We hope they will all feel the same when the |
