Show What's happened to FCAG? We've been asked many times recently, "What's happened to the Five or Four County Association of Governments?" Many I are afraid that we've dropped our crusade i to straighten out this bureaucratic monster or that someone got to us bought us off, so to speak. Neither Is true! What's happened Is that the FCAG has gone underground. Minutes and records of their meetings are no longer long-er available to us. We have no sources inside in-side the FCAG to find out what is going on. I Promises of reports and records are not forthcoming. Publicity releases are unabashed propaganda prop-aganda that glorify the usual services provided pro-vided by state agencies, and ignore the fact that less and less services are actually available. Untold are the thousands and thousands of dollars syphoned from state and federal funds, welfare, aged, and many others that go to pay high administrative costs, j It became obvious some time ago that no progress could be made with the present County Commission to pull BeaverCounty out of the FCAG. However, the COUNTY NEWS did elicit a promise from the new Commissioners that they would take a very critical look at the FCAG. A promise that if the articles of incorporation do, in fact, usurp the powers pow-ers of city and county, they will either correct this situation or pull BeaverCounty out. Because of this pre-election promise, the COUNTY NEWS has made no recent effort to bring to light the waste, and misuse mis-use of governmental powers so common in the FCAG. We expect to give the new Commissioners Com-missioners a couple of months to acquaint themselves with the FCAG. We are confident confi-dent that once they dig into the facts; once they see how the steering committee Is manij. .dated by FCAG staff; once they see how much of the state and federal funds, meant for cities and counties, goes to pay over -paid staff members, we're certain they will take the necessary steps to end this additional level of government.
