Show OPINIONS. DST DUMB, STUPID TIME If you didn't set your clock back Sunday, you've got up too early every day since - and consequently have been out of time with the rest of the world for at least five days. But never you mind, your lack of awareness could never approach that, of that bunch of carpetbaggers who perpetrated perpetrat-ed this travesty on the Innocent people of the nation. Probably nowhere else In the world could you find close to 600 people, who could be stampeded like a herd of cattle Into such a travesty. The pity is that many of these same legislators will be returned to office yes, some will even advance themselves them-selves next Tuesday. You can expect them to come up with a solution for inflation that makes as much sense, as day-light saving time. Last Monday we experienced some more of their meddling med-dling In areas where angels would fear to tread. Veterans Day, they call It. A combination of ATmistice Day (Nov. 11) and Columbus Day, and an all-out effort of Congress to turn every holiday into a three -day massacre on the highways. But do you think they stopped with these ridiculous and uncalled-for infringements on tradition and reason? Of course not - also in in the name of energy conservation conserva-tion - they imposed a 55 mile per hour speed limit on the driving public. This after spending billions of dollars on interstate highways in the name of safety and civil defense, but really to keep pace with the modern technology of the Detroit auto makers. In order to get the states to go along, they threaten to withhold all federal highway funds. And to justify this travesty, they point to the reduced speed as a major contributing con-tributing factor to fewer accidents, and lives lost on the highways. However, they Ignore the fact that Inflation, due largely to the excess government spending, and the contrived energy crisis, has forced most people to curtail their driving because be-cause they just can't afford to go. In light of all of this, we'd be more honest if, when we marked our ballots next Tuesday, we put our X next to the candidate we were most against, with the one receiving the least votes being elected. The theory behind this is that most of us will find It very difficult to find candidates we can give bur wholehearted whole-hearted support. Therefore, It would be much easier to vote against the man we liked the least. "Red" |
