On 2nd down, Barnes tossed tos-sed a flat pass to Garland Talt on the flank and he took it In for the Tigers 2nd TD. The PAT failed and Milford led 14-0 with 2:21 left In the first quarter. Parowan was forced to punt again and this time the Tigers started their drive on their own 35 yard line. Barns mixed his plays well with Bradshaw and Tait doing most of the carrying, and hitting Gary Mayer with a 12 yard pass. After Talt picked up a first and goal on the eight yard line, Barnes rolled to his left to pass, but Bradshaw was covered in the end zone and Barnes raced down the sideline' side-line' for the third TD and a 20-0 score, with 6:08 left in the half. Tait kicked the PAT, but it was nullified by a penalty. The second try failed. The Tigers started another an-other drive on their own 31 after Bradshaw recovered a fumble, but It was stopped on the Rams 34 yard line on downs. However, Randy Kerr who also caught a couple of Barnes passes, picked off one of Hulets on the 40 yard line and returned It for another an-other TD. Barnes handed off to Tait who passed to Bradshaw in the end zone for two more and the score was 28-0 with 33 seconds left. The Tigers, feeling their oats, tried an on-slde kick and it worked perfectly except ex-cept that Parowan recovered their own funble on the Milford 34 " yard line. On third down, Brian Hanley recovered re-covered a Parowan fumble as the half ended. Both teams played a good defensive 3rd quarter. Parowan on a reverse covered cov-ered 51 yards before Russell Smith pulled the runner down from behind. The Rams penetrated to the Milford 16 before Smith intercepted right on the goal (Continued on Page 9) The Tigers, seeing their first chance to gain a state playoff berth, lost no time In establishing their superiority superior-ity over the Parowan Rams Friday afternoon and literally lit-erally brought the Rams to their knees in the 42 -0 route. The Tigers who have been beaten only by Beaver and Kanab, had to have the win to clinch a playoff berth, and took no chances, and ran their first line defense most of the game. However, most of the game Coach Andrus experimented with his offense, using most of the bench and trying new plays; giving experience to younger players, both with the veterans and as a unit. Milford scored the second time they got the ball and almost at will after that. After kicking off to Parowan, the Rams were forced to punt on 4th down, but on 3rd down the Rams stopped the Tigers with an interception. They again were forced to punt on 4th down and the Tigers took over on their own 44 yard line. Kevin Barns passed for the last four yards to Alan Mayer with 3:19 left in the first quarter. They had covered 56 yards In 10 plays. Barnes carried for the PAT and the Tigers led 8-0. Outstanding on defense were Roger Barnes with 18 tackles, Dee VanTassell with 13, Brian Hanley 11, and Jones and Talt with seven each. Barnes completed 8 of 15 passed for 76 yards and ran 20 yards. He scored one touchdown and an extra point. Talt rushed for 104 yards and one TD. Bradshaw rushed for 47 yards and scored a TD and extra point. Gary Mayer rushed for 36 yards and caught three passes. Alan Mayer caught a pass for a TD and Randy Kerr scored on an Interception. |
