Show Utah. State Press Convention In SLC Publishers of Utah's weekly newspapers, thsir wives, families fami-lies and friends will head for Salt Lake this weekend for their Annual State Press Association As-sociation winter meeting Feb. 23, 24 and 25. Convention headquarters will be the Hotel Utah. Business committee meetings meet-ings and Board of Directors S2ssions are set for publishers only Friday afternoon with registration beginning at 3:00 P.M. At 7:00 the convention will formaly open with an open house in the Empire Room of the Hotel Utah. Saturday morning, formal business sessions begin in the Jade Room with President Clarin D. Ashby, Publisher of the Uintah Basin Standard in Roosevelt, conducting. The convention was planned by the committee consisting of Harold B. Sumner, Orem-Geneva Orem-Geneva Times, John Stahle, Jr Davis County Clipper, J. F. Mountford, Wasatch Wave and U.S. P. A. Manager, Gordon P. Owen, Jr. Speakers Saturday wil be Mr. Ralph Comstock, First Security Bank of Boise, Idaho His subject will be, "Responsibilities "Respon-sibilities of the Newspaper to its Community". Another Idaho Ida-ho newspaper man, Mr. Lyle A. Young, Manager of the Idaho Ida-ho Press Association and currently cur-rently a director of American Newspaper Represent atives, will speak on, "The National Advertising Picture." Also featured for Saturday morning's morn-ing's sessions are Governor Calvin Rampton and Walter Smith of the Utah State Industrial In-dustrial Promotion Commission. Commis-sion. They wil speak on the "Case for Professionalism in Community Economics and Industrial In-dustrial Development for the Weekly Editor." A panel of USPA publishers will treat the subject, "The Pros and Cons of Jobbing Out your Newspaper." The afternoon session will be a business meeting for publishers. publish-ers. During this time, special ladies entertainment has been arranged by the University of Utah. Sunday morning begins with a breakfast honoring Utah State Press Association past presidents. Dean Carlton Culmsee, Utah State University, Univer-sity, is the guest speaker. At this time the 1967 Master Editor Edi-tor and Publisher will be named. na-med. A devotional follows. R. LaVaun Cox, former publisher publish-er of Manti Messinger, is the speaker. Theodore A. Sherrill, Executive Execu-tive Vice-President of National Nation-al Newspaper Association of Washington, D. C, representing represent-ing the nation's community newspapers, will speak on our "Public Relations in thhe Newspaper Business." Then a panel consisting of John Reg-nor, Reg-nor, A. E. Heinsohn Company, Steve Graf and L. B. Wood, Walker Bank and Trust Company, Com-pany, wil treat the subject, "Changes in Financing Equipment Equip-ment for Newspapers." The convention will conclude con-clude with the Better Newspaper News-paper Contest awards luncheon. lunch-eon.
