Show Would y'u believe it it has finally happened nobody shewed up to the Milford Wildlife Wild-life Protective Assn. meeting last Saturday. Well almost nobody. no-body. Bert Merryweather, president pre-sident was there, he layed off from his job to be there. Roy oung was there, he was schedule sched-ule as the evenings speaker, and Letter Williams was there. And ye 'ol Ed showed up late to get the story. I had been expectiag this to happen with one organization or another in Milford, since there are a number of them that are on their last legs, or are nearly defunct. Some meet only often enough to elect new efficers, and, in fact this past year one organization, tried to elect officers from members not present and they refused to serve, so in this particular in-ttanceL in-ttanceL there is now .not even anyone left to call a meeting to elect officers. o The four of us sit around and discussed how to get the membership out, the books show about 75 paid up members mem-bers and a balance in the treasury. The Wildlife Assn. once was a dominant organization in the State Fish and Game planning. A letter on their letterhead demanded de-manded respect, and for those who remember the past, and are not aware of the present, it still does. o There are many items that should concern this organization organiza-tion and its members. The out-of-state hunter bill just passed by the Fortieth Legislature is one. There are few within this organization that do not oppose the doe hunt. We are all concerned with our environment, and much could be done to improve the upland game habitat by an energetic en-ergetic organization. o Those who were there Satun-day Satun-day night will undoubtedly try again, they'll set another meeting meet-ing date. They will try to find a topic, an issue that will captivate cap-tivate the membership and get the organization on the right track. But if that falls, so will the organization. o This is how it should be, and with many of tht other organizations organi-zations in the community. If they no longe present a program pro-gram of adequate interest to bring out the membership, to provide entertainment and service ser-vice to the community, then they should return the charter. We have no quarrel with those organizations which are providing a service, either to the community or to its membership, mem-bership, but if it is not, it may be holding back one that would. o The war In Vietnam may be over on paper, but the fighting has intensified. Neither the North or the South wasted any time after the truce was signed. Worse, there is little that the U.S. can do about it. There is one thing though we can adopt a policy of "Not a dime for rebuilding, in either the North or the South, so long as shots are being fired anywhere any-where in Vietnam." If President Nixon cnjld prevail pre-vail on China and Russia to ; dent this same policy, there will soon be little reason left for the fighting. The fa's in the fire and Congress Con-gress is in the hotsat, since President Nixon's budget was given to Congress. It attempts to strike that delicate balance between inflation and depression. depres-sion. And it put much of the responsibility right where it belongs, in the hands of Congress. Con-gress. The irony is that Rampton did almost the same thing in Utah. The difference is Nixon a Republican has a Democratic controlled Congress, while Gov. Rampton, a Democrat, has a Republican controlled legislature. legisla-ture. It will be interesting to watch the results in both cases. |
