Show By the Journalism Class of Word High School Mrs. Mary McCulley, Instructor AERONAUTICS ASSEMBLY The student body attended a National Aeronautics Administration Adminis-tration assembly Tuesday afternoon. aft-ernoon. The purpose of the assembly .M to define aeronautical terms and to better acquaint the students with this program. There were also many interesting inter-esting experiments shown to the students, look Out Hurricane" The Milford Tigers play their first league football game at Hurricane Friday night. After the smashing win over the Lincoln Lynx, the Tigers are looking forward to another victory. The team worked well on both defense and offense against Lincoln and plan to do as well against Hurricane. The team has proved that they can go all the way this j year, so come out and support them Friday. complish a lot this year. Their main hope is to raise money to buy a mirror for the girls' rest room. There will also be many exciting ex-citing events coming up in the future for the members COMMUNITY SERVICE The Senior Class Home Ec girls are really busy these days. With the instruction of Pat Rimpau, our Home Ec teacher, they are sewing hospital hos-pital gowns for the elderly women in the hospital. The girls are using assembly line production in making the gowns. Each girl does a specific spe-cific job in this project. Thea Kay Young and Joyce Grim-shaw Grim-shaw cut out the pattern pieces. Anna Rae Cooper and Charlotte Van Tassell hem the sleeves on the automatic machines. ma-chines. Shirley Yee and Bev-erlee Bev-erlee Hardy sew the yokes. Rita Hatch and Leslie Marshall Mar-shall gather the yokes to the skirts. Helen Finch and Len-na Len-na Galloway do French seams. Deanna Walker hand stitches the hems. Judy Naruse made one complete gown. These hospital gowns are very neat and easy to care for. They are made out of cotton crepe material so they don't need ironing and will be very servireahlp eludes the camera, projector, a $200 zoom lens, and other accessories. The Lettermen must raise $500 before Christmas Christ-mas and another $500 after Christmas for the payments. This means we ALL should give our ALL-OUT support to ALL Lettermen-sponsored activities. ac-tivities. Will you join in this effort? SENIORS FLASHING RINGS The Seniors will be "jumping for joy" by the end of this week. The reason for all the excitement, their class rings are to be here by the end of the week. The Seniors chose rings with a new style of the twist, and many have beautiful ruby stones. STUDENTS 'LAUNCH OFF' NEW LANGUAGE ARTS PROGRAM Monday morning, the new non-graded Language Arts program pro-gram went on trial when each high school student was launched on his own individual English course. For the past two weeks the three teachers connected with this program, Mrs. Johnson, Mr. Goble and Mrs. Elmer, have been working with all students to determine expectancy expect-ancy levels and individual plans for study, the language, the students will be his own individual classroom. class-room. He will be able to work as rapidly as he can at his level of capability. How much each pupil benefits from this system will depend upon his character, his amount of self-control, and his desire to .achieve. ON THEIR WAY The mighty Tigers of Milford won the first game of the football foot-ball season, 31 to 2, over Lincoln Lin-coln County High School last Friday. The first half of the game the Tigers scored four times for 25 points on running plays, while the Lynx were held scoreless. All three touchdowns were preceded by the recovery of fumbles. The Lynx never passed the Tigers' 45-yard line during the first half. In the second half the Lynx held the Tigers on their 5-yard 5-yard line nad forced them back for a safety, their only points of the game. Milford's final tally came on a pass play. The Lynx crept past the Tig-. Tig-. ers' 30-yard line only twice . during the entire game. The Milford team has a strong defense and a well-rounded well-rounded offense. These two factors are what other teams will be hoping to overcome in the weeks ahead. FHA ORGANIZED The Future Homemakers oi America held their first meeting meet-ing in the Home Ec room last Thursday. Many items were discussed, including suggestions for the Homecoming float and the price of dues this year. FHA is really going to ac- TIGERETTES ORGANIZED The Tigerettes, school pep club, held their first meeting Sept. 8 with 46 girls attending. Miss Joseph is the advisor this year. They discussed the purpose of the club and its duties. Officers chosen are Thea Kay Young, president; Eileen Thomas, Thom-as, vice president; Joyce Yount, secretary; Kathy Killam, drill mistress; Marsha Culver, assistant as-sistant drill mistress. SPANISH PROGRAM Spainsh is being offered to the students again this year. As the first step in learning tthe language, the students will learn to speak it. they are now learning familiar phrases that would use in everyday ev-eryday conversation, to make the course more interesting, inter-esting, Mrs Johnson is teaching the students Spanish songs. CAMERA EQUIPMENT ARRIVES The MHS Lettermen have purchased $1,000 worth of camera equipment for the purpose pur-pose of photographing and studying our school's sports activities, which in turn will provide us with a means of building a better and stronger sports department.
