Show USE OF NATIONAL FORESTS ON RISE Activities in all fields of National Forest management have increased, according to W. R. Fallis, Supervisor of Fish-lake Fish-lake National Forest. According Accord-ing to estimates prepared by district rangers thruout the area the Fishlake Forest had 390,700 visits in 1963. This amounts to more than a half million visitor days use. Increased recreation use in 1963 was attributed to improved im-proved or new camp and picnic pic-nic facilities and increased interest in-terest in general outdoor recreation rec-reation activities. Picnicking and fishing were the two most popular types of National Forest enjoyment. However, large numbers of visitors vis-itors also enjoyed camping, hunting and sightseeing. Mr. Fallis emphasized that i the nation's population is steadily stead-ily increasing and that the people have more leisure time and more and better transportation transpor-tation facilities. Therefore, the amount of outdoor recreation use is expected to continue upward. This .will necessitate careful and well planned management man-agement of forest recreation areas to insure that they serve their intended purpose. |
