Show Fire Destroys Union Pacific Building, Threatens Town The freight office of the Union Pacific Railroad was destroyed by fire Monday afternoon, and the burning embers sweeping down. Main Street threatened the town. The Beaver and Cedar City fire departments were called, when it seemed the blaze mightspread to the main portion por-tion of the business district, but local volunteer firemen had the blaze under control when they arrived. . Blazing shingles and charred embers littered Main Street, and the heavy smoke had traffic traf-fic snarled during the fire. Starting about 4 p. m., the Milford department had the fire under control, but still smoldering, an hour later. Union Pacific spokesmen said estimate of the loss had not been determined, pending complete com-plete check of freight shipments, ship-ments, but that there was "very little" customer freight in the building at the time. Most of the loss, except for the building build-ing itself, which was completely complete-ly consumed, would be to equipment of potato growers and others who leased the south portion of the building. There was no official word on cause of the fire |
