Show 'World Day of Prayer' Planned for Feb. 17 A "satellite of pr'ayer" will be launched on February 17. Its message will circle the globe and penetrate its farthest reaches. On February 17, World Day of Prayer, millions of people in 145 countries will join in the 24 hour vigil of prayer. As the sun wheels in its course, prayers will pour forth across Asia, Africa, Europe, the Americas Ameri-cas and the islands of the sea; by nightfall ending a 24 hour chain of prayer. Overlooking all national lines, all racial lines, and all battle lines; in quietness and in confidence, confid-ence, the worlds people will pray to recover in life something of the peace of Jesus Christ. In this country, services will be held in schools, hospitals, factories, fac-tories, parks and prisons, as well as in churches. Many governors and mayors issue special proclamations procla-mations calling people to prayer. Entire communities are drawn into participation through the ringing of the church bells, the whistling of factory sirens. In some areas, traffic will come to a full-minute stop for prayers. This is a fine way of strengthening strength-ening our golden circle of friendship friend-ship around the world. The western west-ern two-thirds of the nation should add a prayer for moisture as in many other countries. May the prayers you say be full of thought and devotion and not just words. |
