Show I SNOW SURVEY FINDS I SUBNORMAL ' MOISTURE ON BEAVER MOUNTAINS The snow survey made Jan. 26 by the Soil Conservation Service Serv-ice showed snow to be but 51 of normal for this time of year. This snow survey, completed ! before the last storm, gave the following readings: Big Flat, 26 inches snow and 7.6 inches water; this compares with last year's reading of 6.2 in. water at Big Flat, and a 15-year average of 11.7 inches water. Otter Lake, 17 inches snow and 3.0 inches water; last year, 5.2 inches, 15-year average 9.9 in. Merchant Valley, 11 inches snow and 3 inches water. Last year, 3.3 inches; 15-year average, 6.5 inches. The snow pack this year is about the same as last year at this time. The final spring runoff run-off will be effected considerably by the next two months' precipitation. pre-cipitation. Normal precipitation will improve the outlook, but it will require more than double the normal precipitation to bring the water supply up to normal. |
