Show Changes in Social Security Law Explained From time to time, you have probably read or heard about the major changes made in the Social So-cial Security Act by the 1960 amendments. For instance, disability dis-ability insurance benefits may now be paid to workers under 50; less work is needed to qualify for old-age and survivors benefits; bene-fits; and retired persons may now have less benefits withheld because of part-time work. Several changes in the law affect af-fect a limited number of people. For instance, under the old law, a child could not receive benefits on his deceased father's account if his father had not been contributing con-tributing to his support, and his stepfather had. Under the new law, a child may receive bene on his deceased father's account regardless of whether he was being be-ing supported by him. The new law also changes the way a child's benefit payments are figured.
