Show FISHLAKE RANGERS BUSY FIGHTING FOREST FIRES Forest rangers on the Fishlake National Forest were kept busy fighting fires Sunday evening, according ac-cording to Forest Supervisor S. L. Cuskelly. A severe lightning storm passed over the forest at about 4 p.m. that afternoon, leaving seven sev-en fires in its wake. Twenty-seven men were dispatched dis-patched to combat fires on the Fillmore, Fill-more, Kanosh, Beaver, Monroe, and Salina districts. Excellent cooperation co-operation from the public in the prompt reporting of the fires made quick action possible and all fires were contained while still small. According to Supervisor Cuskelly, Cuskel-ly, very little rain accompanied the lightning storm and the fire danger dan-ger remains extreme over most of the forest area. Aerial patrol was maintained over the storm path for the next three days to pick up any "sleepers" which might show up when the expected drying winds resumed. Accurate reporting and prompt suppression action by Fire Warden War-den Kessler at Cove Fort and Blaine Curtis, Aurora, were of considerable con-siderable assistance in handling ; this emergency situation, Cuskelly said. The supervisor reports that a total of 31 fires have been suppressed sup-pressed on the Fishlake Forest so far this year, compared with 39 in all of 1959. With the hazardous months of September and October yet to come, he predicts an all-time high in fire occurrence. |
