Show THIEVES AT BEAVER ROUTED BY GUN-TOSSING GUN-TOSSING BRIDE Connie Bergstrom, 17 year old two-week bride of Fred Bergstrom of Beaver, routed two transient burglars who broke into her home when she was alone in the house with only her small sister, Linda, for support. Noticing the hitchhikers enter the yard, Mrs. Bergstrom Berg-strom locked the doors and as the two men pried open a window, hid in a clothes closet with her sister. After ransacking the house the men opened the closet door revealing the two ladies.. The thieves returned a set of car keys and a watch they had taken, but kept a $5 bill. Mrs. Bergstrom reportedly screamed and threw a loaded gun at the intruders when they , opened the closet door. As they left, the girls ran to the home of a neighbor, Joe Greenwood, who notified Sheriff Lee R. Fillmore, then apprehended the men and held them until Sheriff Fillmore Fill-more took them into custody. The men, identified as Richard Rich-ard Alan Smith, Mesa County, Mo., said to be on parole from San Quentin penitentiary in California, and John Dale Johnson, 19, Salt Lake, are held in the Beaver County jail under third degree burglary charges. |
