Show Beaver Mountains Snow Pack Tops Recorded 1938-52 Average Snow surveys on the Beaver Range on March 22nd Showed an increase of 27 inches of snow depth and 6.5 inches of water at the higher elevations during the last thirty days. Snow depth averaged 89.6 inches with 27.0 inches of water on the Big Fla1,, 10,000 foot elevation, compared to 67 inches of snow and 21.5 inches of water at this time last year. Snow surveys were made by Donald Stevens of the Soil Conservation Service, assisted by Lee Strong and Arvel Madsen from Beaver. The 9,300 foot elevation Otter Lake snow course averaged 73.7 inches, of snow containing 20.7 inches of water. Last years averages av-erages for April 1, were 58 inches snow with 18 inches of water. The Merchant Valley course 8,200 foot elevatiori averaged 54.2 inches of snow and 14.9 inches of water compared to 34.6 inches of snow and twelve inches in-ches of water at this time last year. Snow depth and water content is above the 1938-52 averages on all these courses. Property owners along the Beaver River are showing concern over possible pos-sible damages from high runoff this spring. The Minersville Reservoir Res-ervoir is filled to near capacity permitted by the State Engineer and could hold only a limited amount of runoff water. |
