Show WEBER PLAYS HOST TO McKINLEY The Micks are gone, but Weber will long remember its Hawaiian guests. Weber students and citizens of Ogden gathered at the Union Station October 4, to greet the third football squad from McKinlcy High School. As the twenty-four visitors entered the circle of spectators, Weber's band struck up, and the strains of "Aloha Oc" swelled out, sung first by the girls' glee club, then by the student body. After flowers were pinned on each of the boys by a Weber girl, speeches of welcome were given by Mayor Ora Gundy and Bill Alsup, student body president. Coach Frank Hluboky of McKinley responded. Weber gave fifteen heartfelt "rahs" for their guests and sang "Across the Sea," then formed a parade and proudly escorted the Hawaiians through town to their hotel. The next day the McKinlcy students were honored at an assembly with a program presented by students from both schools. Student body officers welcomed the visitors, and each was introduced by Coach Hluboky. Hawaiian numbers were song by a male quartette, accompanied by ukulele music. That evening a public program was given, at which Senator Elbert D. Thomas spoke on the subject of "International Cooperation." The fifth Weber-McKinley game was played on October 6, with the Micks winning the evening contest 26-0. Entertainment between halves was offered by the bare-footed kicking of Paoa, Ah Sui, and Frcitas . Weber's band and a number of coeds gave an impressive drill. An official football dance took place October 7 in tht Bcrthana ballroom with the Hawaiians furnishing some music and a hula dancer. On October 9, Eddie Kendall, faculty representative, spoke to the Weber students. He stressed the spirit of racial equality and cooperation that exists at McKinley in spite of the many different nationalities represented there. After defeating B. Y. U. Freshman 27-7, and Ricks 7-0, the McKinlcy team left Ogden, October 15, with the farewell songs of the girls' glee club ringing in their ears, testifying to Weber's appreciation of the Micks, great as a team, and even finer as friends.
