Show Pirates of the Mississippi to rock USD's boat Whatdo you get when you mix equal parts Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Allman Brothers and the Rolling Stones, and throw in a big mess of finger-lickin' country chops? Pirates of the Mississippi, that's what! Liberty Recording artists Pirates of the Mississippi will be appearing in Logan, Utah as part of their 1994 United States Tour. The Pirates will perform at The Spectrum on the campus of Utah State University May 10 at 7 p.m. The Pirates have recently released their fourth album, "Dream You," and their single, "Save The Wildlife," has just been released to radio. The band collaborated with country superstars MarkChesnutt and Clint Black. Critics have described the Pirates of the Mississippi as "deep and emotional, hard-rockin' country" with vocal performances "alive with passion." They have also received critical acclaim from the Chicago Tribune and Billboard Magazine. The new album "Dream You" is the band's fourth, and proves the best just keeps getting better and better. They've added some hoppin' piano to their gutsy guitar sound and the interplay between keys, guitars and steel gives the music a fat-textured feel. They've included songs by the band's writers, singer Bill McCorvey and guitarist Rich Alves, as well as a top selection from some of the industry's top artists. McCorvey collaborated with Roger Mural and John Schwas on "People My Age," and with Troy Seals and Craig Wiseman on "What I want and What I Get." Pirates of the Mississippi now have threecritically-acclaimed albums behind them, but when they first got together back in the mid '80s they weren't even looking for a record deal. They came from varied backgrounds, but all had one thing in common restlessness with their day jobs. Alves was a publishing company executive, and McCorvey was a struggling songwriter. Bassist Dean Townson worked in an airplane factory, and steel player Pat Severs was a top sessions player. Drummer Jimmy Lowe was a computer programmer. The band played clubs around Nashville on weekends and started gathering a large following. As luck would have it, one of those fans happened to work for a record label and they were brought to the attention of Liberty Records' Jimmy Bowen. From then on, the Pirates' success has increased by leaps and bounds. Tickets are $15, $17, and $22.50 and are available at the USU ticket office. r M'; ( V . :H. . , T .,.,;:r - - .
