Show 12 Signpost May 10, 1993 Help From page 11 Head track coach Chick Hislop said that the administration has been very cooperative and han't let the problem with the track go unnoticed. The track conditions have also not gone unnoticed by others who use the facility. "We can't get anyone to run on the track," Hislop said. "Most of the track team are local kids, but recruiting is hard. They know we have a good program but won't come because of the track." The one bright spot for WSU's track program is its indoor track facilities. "It's the finest facility in the Western Region," Hislopsaid, "but we only use the indoor track in the winter." Along with problems of recruits not coming to WSU, the High School Activities Association, which has held theirstatemeethere for eight years, now holds it at BYU because of the poor conditions at WSU. Hislop said the present conditions are dangerous to athletes. There are holes all over the track. There are also cracks and bumps every few feet. He feels lucky that there hasn't been a major injury attributed to the track so far this season. 'This year we almost cancelled the high school meet that we host because it was an embarrassment to bring them here," women's track coach Jim Blaisdell said. Even though the need to replace the track is great, the cost to replace it is substantially greater. It will take approximately $350,000-$400,000 to complete the job. The price is steep because the track has deteriorated to the point that it will have to be completely redone. "We need to bring people's attention off and on campus about the track so we can find a solution as to how to pay for it," Stewart said. Hislop said he would like to see improvements in the near future in hopes of preventinginjuries. Rain, rain go away. Cold weather, rain and snow prevented the Weber State University football team from holding its annual PurpleWhite Intra-Squad game. The game was scheduled to : take place Saturday at 1 p.m. The game has been re-scheduled for tonight at 7 p.m. la the Wildcat Stadium. Admission is free. Arslantan made the decision to delay the final workout of spring : drills Saturday morning. The scrimmage will pit the; Wildcat offense against the Wild-; cat defense. Theoffense will have its usual scoring opportunities, but the de-: fense will also be given points for quarterback sacks, interceptions and forstoppinganoffensivedrive. A running score will be kept. "It will be a fun game forboth sides," Arslanian said. "We want ; to make it as competitive as possible. Our practice sessions and scrimmages have gone very well. We've had a cha nee to see how our younger players fair under gamelike conditions." Arslanian said the game should also give him a better overall picture of where the team's strengths and weaknesses lie and what they need to work on over the summer.
