Rich Ericson a former communication major at Weber State is currently still on campus but his success story continues outside the classroom. Ericson came to Weber State on a football scholarship in 1984 after graduating from Olympus High school out of Salt Lake City. He was anAll-Ameri-can quarterback for Olympus High and heavily recruited by such teams as BYU Utah State, and the University of Utah. Ericson also went on a recruiting trip to Arizona but staying close to home appealed more to Erickson. After playing two years of college football as a quarterback Ericson left the W eber State Wildcats to serve on a mission in Oklahoma. Two years later Ericson returned from his mission and continued taking communication classes working towards his B.S degree. Soccer club vital to athletic succes of WSU By Jennifer Pratt Staff writer of The Signpost The soccer club at Weber State University is one of the busiest clubs on campus. The club is a year-round program set up for both men and women. The soccer club competes against both major college teams and the Utah Soccer Association throughout the year. The men's soccer club competed in 28 collegiate games in the fall including teams such as Boise State, Idaho State and Northern Arizona along with all the teams from the major colleges in Utah including, the University of Utah, B.Y.U., Utah State and Westminster College. The men's club also keeps busy in the spring, playing most of their Utah Soccer Association games cgdnst clher clubs in the area. The men's soccer club has had an extremely successful year. They have been very competitive and they also play against major colleges and clubs in the area. During the winter months, both the men's and the women's soccer club participate in an indoor soccer league. The league was started here at Weber and consists of 62 teams, including 9 University teams. The indoor soccer league's games are held Saturdays in the Weber State gymnasium. Ten players from the Weber State soccer teams, five women and five men, were chosen to be a part of the Utah State Select Team for Soccer. This team is made up of the best players in the state. The team practices in Salt Lake and competes against other select teams from different areas. Tiiis past year the Utah Select Team was able to go and compete in the semi-finals.
