Show 4 Signpost Friday, June 6, 1986 ZJUdMSK - S Newspaper staff 'signs off after successful year by Rae Dawn Olbert Editor-in-Chief Well, we made it. The staff here at the Signpost has interviewed, written, edited and typed its way to this the last edition of the 1985-86 school year. We have survived irate students, irate faculty, irate staff and irate administration members. We have covered everything from NUSAT to the presidential inauguration, from open hour to the semester system, from basketball to the theater, and from student elections to student opinions. Much of what happened this year has been compiled and is brought into focus in this year's SignOff. Students should hold onto this special supplement; its yearbook format will serve to remind them of their time at WSC. All in all, it has been quite a year. And although there are many stories and programs we just couldn't get to, this year has been one of the best in the 50-year history of the Signpost. This year's staff has been one of the most dedicated and hard-working bunch of individuals I . have ever encountered. Together, we have produced a quality paper that the entire campus can be proud of. Chris Miller, managing editor, has been the driving force behind the paper and many of the 'extras' we have accomplished. He took it upon himself to produce the in-depth stories and features that have greatly enhanced our semi-weekly editions. JaNae Barlow, features editor, has been buried in the archives all year, researching her interesting Reflections articles. We took her out and dusted her off each week to write her articles, which added a personal touch to the news section. Loretta Park, our feisty government affairs editor, tackled the Legislature and ASWSC both. For the first time, students had first-hand accounts of decisions made on Capitol Hill that would affect them greatly. Loretta spent a lot of time and effort in covering these events and their implications. Mike Coe, our "reserved" sports editor, divided his time between running track and running the sports department. His coverage of sports events especially track, has been exceptional. Dave Allison, assistant sports editor, was our resident J.R. the "man you love to hate "until we got to know him and his sense of humor. Dave's writing skills have grown tremendously and his contributions to the sports pages have been great. Leona Vandre, our even more shy and reserved arts and entertainment editor, brought depth and insight into the cultural events at WSC. Her knowledge of artistic talents and unique writing style helped to increase campus interest in the many cultural affairs offered at Weber State. Linda Nimori, copy editor, SignOff editor and 1986-87 editor-in-chief, has been deeply involved with the newspaper and its staff. Linda's dedication to her job and the paper as a whole saw her sitting for hours at a terminal until her eyes were red proofreading and editing the copy, the headlines, the outlines, the ads anything and everything having to do with the paper. Emilie Bean, our news editor and production manager, has come from being quiet and reserved to being a real go-getter. She helped develop the look of the paper with her eye for design. Ken Hill, our resident teddy bear and business manager, has put up with much from all sides. He has helped to enhance the image of the paper and is greatly esteemed by his staff. He taught us that teddy bears can growl, too. And Uncle Larry, our advisor, provided gentle guidance and professional advice to our struggling group of fledgling journalists. His patience and calm wisdom has been a shaping factor in the paper's ideals and the lives of the individuals who make up the Signpost. Our group of photographers Scott, Oscar, Jeff and Rory worked hard to provide a pictorial view of the campus and the events happening on it. Things really began rolling this last quarter with our sharp bunch of new reporters. They have the makings of fine future Signpost editors. And the production staff stayed late each night to help us get everything "straight." Our paper would not have been possible without the support and encouragement of many individual and groups throughout the campus. The administra tion, ASWSC, the entire communication depart ment, the public relations department, all the secretarys, coaches, teachers and staff members across the college; we appreciate your making time for us, working with us and for us. For this we thank you and look forward to working with von again next year. y I ne gang 1S eager to get this last edition out and so I must cease my end-of-the-year reminiscing On, last thing before I go.
