Show Sy mphony B allet offers discounts to students Students who enjoy some of the "finer things in life," like a night at the symphony or ballet, can now give their pocketbooks a break. Students with a current student ID can attend Ogden SymphonyBallet performances for half price. Jean Pell, executive director of the Ogden SymphonyBallet Association, said the special student price is "to encourage young people to attend the symphony and ballet." Dan Martino, director of cultural affairs for WSC, said he has been trying to work out something like this for many years. "School is quite expensive . . . what with the cost of books, parking, tuition . . . I've been wanting to do something for the students for years," he said. Martino, who said he is "very happy" with the student rate, feels the special price will increase student attendance at symphony and ballet performances. Students will be able to purchase tickets at half price for remaining seats 15 minutes before the performance, usually held at 8 p.m. . "Any seat at any price," will be half price for students with their ID cards, said Pell. Depending on where they want to sit, "A student could attend the symphony for as little as 82.50 or the ballet for 83.50. Let's hope they take advantage of this opportunity to see some of the finest entertainment of the time . . . and it's easy on the pocketbook," Pell said. This student rate is only for the Ogden SymphonyBallet performances, and does not include programs of the Utah Symphony, Ballet West or others. f ; tr p I n n t k 1,1 ' J ,! f : f f I i I ' ' ' I - l r I it ! ) I ! Martino said because of the group's reputation for excellence, precision and subtlety, the octel is expected to fill the Allrcd Theater with people from throughout the state and Idaho. The octet, which performs without a conductor, will include works of Bach. Mendelssohn. Beethoven and Enesco in the night's program.
