Greeks Gear Up For Week Of Activities Policy Change In Tuition Benefits Adopted Two policy changes were recently adopted by the Institutional Council. The first policy change relates to tuition benefits and has two modifications: l)Prior to the policy change, dependent tuition-waiver benefits applied to sons, daughters, step-sons and step-daughters only when they were defined as "dependent" under the Internal Revenue code. This meant that a son or daughter who was not being claimed as a dependent for tax purposes was not eligible for a tuition waiver. The change to this policy provides that sons, daughters, step-sons, and step-daughters up to age 26 are eligible for tuition waivers as defined by Weber State College policy 3-42, regardless of their dependent status. 2) The spouse and children of deceased faculty or staff members are eligible for the same tuition-waiver benefits as the spouse and children of current employees if the deceased employee was eligible for tuition benefits and had been in such a position for at least five years. The second policy change allows for the issuance of activity cards to spouses of faculty, staff, and long-term hourly employees. The cards will be issued only upon request. This policy will allow spouses the convenience of having regular ID-card privileges such as discounts in the bookstore and access to gymnasium facilities. A $2.50 fee will be charged at the time of the request to cover the cost of the production and subsequent validations of the card. It is still appropriate for a spouse to use the ID card of an employee, but the anticipation is that this may not be : convenient in some cases. Any spouse desiring an identification card should come to the Personnel Office, Miller Administration Building, room 111. For more detailed information on these two policies, you may want to refer to policy 3-45 (Fringe Benefits) and policy 3-42 (Tuition Benefits) in the Weber State College Policy Manual. These manuals are available in every department on campus. by Chandra Parker Staff Reporter Painting greek letters on the road between Weber's campus and Harrison Boulevard on Sunday afternoon set "Greek Week" a week filled with activities for the "Greeks" (the fraternities and sororities on campus) -in motion.
