The WSC Insititutional Council unanimously endorsed the program during its meeting a couple of weeks ago. According to a report presented to the council, the applied politics program will focus on training students to become campaign managers, finance directors, field directors, media people, project managers, lobbyists, and trained people who can manage bond or special issue elections. The proposed program will be funded by the American Institute of Applied Politics (AIAP) which is based in Washington D.C. The institute will move its offices to Utah if approved by the regents. The AIAP will be self-supporting through contributions from individuals, companies or corporations, foundations, and political action committees. The organization is planning to raise up to $656,000 of initial seed money to launch the program proposed for the 1980-81 school year. College President Rodney H. Bradysid the program is bipartisan '- and will stress practical politics; ... "There is no place in"ffle-U.S, where you can learn to organize, finance, and conduct a political campaign," Brady said. "Students will now have the opportunity to learn how to run a campaign." Council member Jerald Storey said applied politics would be an education program, not an indoctrination. He added the AIAP would give an objective presentation in its teachings. AIAP investigated colleges and universities throughout the nation, Brady said. After their search, they unanimously consented to present the program at WSC. He noted the organization was professional and well organized. Why man jogs explored Jogging gives a person more freedom of mind and body, a philosophy professor said. J.C. Glidden is teaching a class this fall quarter entitled "The Philosophy of the Runner." The experimental class course number is 281 and students will receive three hours of credit through the department of philosophy. He said the class is not just for health reasons but to examine why people run beyond what is adequately healthy. "Jogging is not iust to discover your body," he noted, "but for yourself, your freedom, and self-esteem."Glidden said that a person must sin first to discover a virtuous life, as an example. He also said that the class will . go to the root of western views of the mind and the body. He said in the west, the mind is more important than the body, that people can't make sense out of the mind and body being one. "Running gives you more confidence, by knowing you can do more things and can take more things on," Glidden added.
