' 7 ' - v ' " ' ; V - 0 frchesis starts tonight Numbers choreographed by professionals and students will be part of the spring concert presented Friday and Saturday by Orchesis, the modern dance group at Weber State College. The annual two-night concert will be held in the Val A. Browning Center Little Theater at 8 each night. The dances have been choreographed by Nancy Welti, artistic director of Orchesis now in her second year at WSC; Judi Fullmer, guest choreographer, and four student members of the group. The dances have been arranged to give the audience a chance to become acquainted with modern dance through a variety of angles that we feel are exciting and colorful," Welti said. The costumes are multi colored and original. Jazz music will be played at intervals by a small group. Admission fee is $1 for everybody. Tickets will be sold at the door both performance nights. Leonard Rowley, professor of theater arts at I ,.'. fF 1WI.IMWIMHJIIII J" Jl Mill knifi m'a' hiM "-'--i mm rfniri r " - - j- mr -jnfmrri Weber State College, has been given a $2,500 grant to attend an eight-week theatrical seminar in New York City from June 12 to Aug. 4. The seminar is entitled, "Theatrical Exploration of 16 International Plays." It will be held at the Herbert Lehman College, which is part of the City University of New York system. During the seminar he will be expected to write two 2,000 word papers and a major research project on the current trends of modern theater, both on and off-Broadway.The grant was from the National Endowment of the Humanities. Rowley was one of 12 in the nation to receive such a grant this year. To get sufficient background for his papers Rowley said he will spend a great deal of time attending theatrical productions in New York City. He has been directing plays at Weber State for 23 years, and is now the WSC coordinator of theater arts, Department of Music and Theater Arts. |
