Show May 19, 1978 GRAND SLAM The pressure will be on the Wildcat Tracksters today and tomorrow as they compete in the annual Big Sky Conference Track and Field Championships at Pocatello, Idaho. If Weber State is to for certain win it's first all-sports trophy since 1970; then the 'Cat Tracksters must place fifth or better in the seven team field. Weber State currently has a seven point lead over Boise State in the all-sports standings. But, if the Broncos were to win the Conference Track Championship and Weber were to finish in sixth place-then Boise and Weber would tie for the all-sports title. If the Bronocs are to win their fifth straight all-sports trophy; then they must win the track crown and hope WSC finishes sixth or seventh. ISU Favored Host Idaho State University is the track favorite, but Montana University and Boise State are possible contenders. Boise's strength to win the track title could come from their storehouse of depth which-could provide them with a bundle of second, third, fourth and fifth place peperformances in this weekend's meet. WSC won three previous all-sports titles during 1968 to 1970. The award is a prestigious one representing athletic supremecy in the Big Sky Conference. Earning the award this weekend would be a real boost to Wildcat Athletics. Let's hope Coach Chick Hislop and his Wildcat Tracksters can pull off some outstanding performances in the conference meet to thereby clinch Weber's first all-sports title in eight years. SOMEONE ELSE said it In sports, "Guts" is merely the decision to endure pain.
