Show Mav 19, 1978 Signpost Pa 3 Outing Center plans spring summer trips The Weber State Outing Center is offering a couple of upcoming trips. For photographers or anyone who enjoys the outdoors, the outing center is sponsoring a trip to Goblin Valley on May 19-21. Goblin Valley is noted for its excellent photographic views, and a full moon during the trips should provide some spectacular night scenes as well. As the size of the group will be limited, interested persons should sign up immediately. Contact Syd Young in the Outing Center at extension 255 or 394-3017 can provide further information. Caribbean Cruise The WSC Outing Center is also offering a one week Caribbean cruise in August. The tour begins Aug. 19 in Miami with stops in San Juan, Pureto Rico, St. Maarten, the Lesser Antilles, St. Thomas and the Virgin Islands. Art exhibit remains open An annual "Weber State College Art Student Exhibit," open to all students on campus, has drawn dozens of entries which will remain on display through May 31. The exhibit of paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, sculptures, weaving, jewelry, ceramics and other art works has been judged by Mark Anderson and Robert McCall of Salt Lake City. Richard J. Van Wagoner, art department chairman, said that although the majority of the entries represent the work of WSC art students, the exhibit was open to any Weber State students who wanted to participate. Prizes of $25, $20, and $15 for first, second, and third, respectively, were awarded following the judging. First place winner was Darrell Warner, water color; second place, Jimmie Owens, photoetching; third place, Curt Harris, ceramics. Honorable mention went to the following: Sid Furlong, jewelry; Gail James, silk screen; Jeri Kelly, watercolor; Curt Harris, ceramics, and Clyde Mueller, photography. The collection is on display in the WSC Art Department gallery. Dental students gain acceptance Seven of the ten seniors in the pre-dental program at Weber State College who have applied for admissions to dentals schools in the fall have been accepted. Dr. Darrell J. Graff, professor of zoology, and adviser to the group called the showing "remarkable" because Utah has no dental school of its own, and students must apply to other states where policies on the acceptance of out-of-state students are becoming more and more rigorous. Others of the applicants have had personal interviews and have hopes of being accepted. Acceptance usually depends on earning a grade point average of 3.5 or better, dental admission test (DAT scores above the national average, and a helpful letter of reference. Those students who have been accepted, and the schools they will be attending, include: Brad Johnson, Ogden, who will attend the University of Washington with the help of a Utah state scholarship; Val Cox, Ogden; Georgetown University, Washington, D.C.; Bryan Gilbert, Ogden, Case Western Reserve University. Merrill Dickson, Tucson, Ariz., Tufts University; Lynn Clifford, Ogden, Northwestern University, Evanston, 111; Rand T. Mattson, Ogden, who will attend Georgetown University, and Scott Dickson, Ogden, who will attend Tufts.
