Show May 9, 1978 Signpost I 'age r Perran and Naumann lead Weber 'Cat finish third in BSC tennis The Weber State Tennis Team placed third in the Big Sky Conference Championships held last weekend at Boise, Idaho. The defending champ, the University of Idaho, won the team title with 38 points to finish ahead of a surging, Boise State, the host team by 4 points. The Broncos tallied 34 points and WSC had 31. Other team scores were: 4) Montana State University 15 pts., 5) Montana University 9 pts., and 6) Idaho State had 8 team points. The Wildcats fell to the eventual champ, Idaho, 7-2 in an individual match, while Boise State downed the 'Cats 6-3 in another individual match. However, WSC won its three other matches 9-0, 9-0, and 8-1 to claim their third place. Two Wildcat players won their individual singles titles. Jon Perran and Jerry Naumann were both champs in the number two and three singles divisions respectively. Damir Popadic finished second in the number one singles division and the Naumann and Tim Finger duo came in second place in the number two doubles slot. Coach Keith Cox and his 'Cats were hindered in the conference play with three injured players. Kevin Kempin required hospital treatment for his injury. Eight of the nine matches in the Boise State game went three full sets and four of nine matches went the full distance of play in the Idaho match for the 'Cats. The third place performance ends the Tennis season for the Wildcats this year. Spring football ends The Weber State Football Team closed out their five week spring training season last Saturday by holding their annual intersquad game in Wildcat Stadium. The defensive team won the game 44-42, despite the cool and windy weather. Coach Pete Riehlman felt a lack of depth, especially in the lines and linebackers is Weber's weakest area.
