And that means protecting yourself from unexpected doctor and hospital bills. (Sophomore status doesn't exempt you from a wiggly appendix!) Weber has made it easy by sifting through tons of insurance literature for you. They were looking for a good program for students ... on a student's budget. They chose Blue Cross and Blue Shield as the best coverage for the money. Signing up is a snap. Read the brochure you got with your enrollment packet. (If you misplaced it, call the cashier's office for another copy.) You can register for coverage at the same time you're registering for classes and paying tuition. You might hate your basic anthropology class, but you won't regret enrolling in the Special Blue Cross and Blue Shield Student Program. Km Blue Cross Blue Shield ol Utah Having a better academic community is a direct result of having good cooperation between students,' faculty, and administration.Dello, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Dello Dayton, spoke last week to the Student Academic Senate's fall workshop. Student Academic Senators and department chairmen, and other faculty members attended the workshop designed to establish better ties between faculty and students. "A successful educational enterprise requires cooperative relationships at many levels," said Dayton, explaining there are student and administrative ties at the top of the educational ladder, where a student sits on the Board of Regents, "representing students throughout the state." "There is a tie at the next level wherein we have a student sitting as an official member of the Institutional Council... I believe the student who sits on the Institutional Council not only represents the students but he also represents the institution and the public. "Another area in which there are direct administrative-student relationships is the committee structure on the campus. Although there are some committees on which students don't serve, many of our committees do have representatives from students, faculty, and administration. This provides another opportunity to build better relationships which should accrue to the benefit of the college." Dr. Dayton, a former Dean of curriculum, said "the operation of the student academic senate, as I understand it, provides an excellent opportunity for direct relationships between the administrative leaders of the schools , the deans, and also the quasi-administrators in the departments, the department chairpersons. The real and significant action--the teaching effort-takes place within the departments. There the linkage through the Student Academic Senate becomes very important."Dr. Dayton suggested problems in these relationships might best be resolved by using the proper channels. For example, a problem relating to the classroom is best handled by the student and the teacher. If the problem can't be resolved at this level the student should work through the department chairperson. If this is unsuccessful, the dean could be involved and finally the Vice President of Academic Affairs. "I believe if we use the channels effectively, we would place responsibility where it should be placed and prevent many problems for the student affairs administrative areas. My obervations are in no way intended to disregard the role of the Ombudsmen, responsible student affairs administrators or a more formal appeals and hearing procedure. But if we work together to build more effective relationships, we shall find less need for time-consuming problem solving activities, eliminate situations that sometimes demean students, faculty and administrators, and generally make our operations at the college more pleasant and more effective. "If we work cooperatively, all elements of the academic community will be betterserved."
