Show May 3, 1977 Signpost Page 5 Wildcat sports summary Highlighting the weekend for Wildcat sports was the ' WSC Tennis Team which won the Boise State Invitational meet with a perfect 4-0 record. Weber beat Montana State University 8-0, the University of Montana 9-0, Boise State 7-2 and a Boise All-Star team 8-1 to claim the title. Of the nine individual championships, Weber swept seven. Tim Finger won the number one singles title, while Jerry Naumann took the number two singles championship. Other Weber players placing first in respective singles brackets were: 3) Damir Popadic; 5) Ralph Rees; and 6) Bob Hardy, Finger and Brent Levetan won a doubles title, while Rees and Kempin also won a doubles championship. Yesterday, the Weber Netters met Westminster in Salt Lake, while on Thursday they enter the Big Sky Conference championships at Moscow, Idaho. Racquetball: The Weber Racquetball Club traveled to Logan and played Utah State Saturday. The 'Cats got a solid thumping and could only manage to win 8 of 56 games. Play was conducted on a round robin type tournament with each player playing eight games. Karen Brown was Weber's top player with a 6-0 record. Golf: The Weber State Golfers placed 15th in the tough Sun Devil-Phoenix Thunderbird Intercollegiate Invitational Golf Tournament held last weekend in Scottsdale, Arizona. The nation's top link teams competed in the fifth annual tournament that saw last year's NCAA Golf Champion, Oklahoma State University win the team title easily with 1046 total strokes to outrun runnerup Arizona State with 1080. In other team standings: 3) Brigham Young, 1089; 4) San Diego State, 1098; 5) Houston, 1109; 6) San Jose State, 1112; 7) Oregon, 1115; 8) USU, 1116; 9) Stanford, 1124; 10) Arizona, 1126; 11) Fresno State, 1129; 12) Colorado, 1134; 13) Long Beach State, 1143; 14) UCLA, 1146; 15) Weber State, 1154; 16) New Mexico 1168 and 17) New Mexico State 1169. Larry Miller of Oklahoma State fired a final round 66 Saturday to win medalist honors with a 54 hole total of 203. Ed Fioro of Houston was second at 207. Weber State's individual scores were: Matt Cole, 223; Mike Gove, 225; Brad Stone, 232; John Graham 234; Bob Bradbury 240 and Devin Burns, 243. Softball: The WSC Women's softball team won one out of three road games in Colorado over the weekend to force them into a three way tie for sixth place in the conference standings. Friday, WSC edged Colorado State University in Fort Collins by a 4-3 score. Kim Gianchetta pitched a three hitter for the Wildcats in addition to slugging two hits herself. Saturday in Greeley, Colo., Weber dropped a 6-3 game to the University of Wyoming and then fell to Northern Colorado in a shutout game 10-0. The games left Weber with a 2-6 . iif-i . Soccer: The Weber State College Soccer Club upped its season record to 4-0 Friday with a 6-2 win over the University of Utah. The high scoring match was played at Weber State and Al-Johnai scored three goals to lead the Wildcat Scoring attack. Abdullah has now struck for seven goals this season. Harash Abdul Aziz kicked in two WSC goals, while Shu Cheng added another to complete the Weber scoring. Basketball: Weber State recently signed its fourth new prospective basketball player for next season. Walter Bentley, a 6-2 guard from Los Angeles is the newest player to sign. Bentley played for Los Angeles Washington High School where he averaged 23.8 points per game and also six assists. He was a member of the Los Angerles all-city squad. THURSDAY May 5: Girls' Region one and two high school track meet in WSC stadium. Thursday to Saturday : The Big Sky Conference Tennis meet will beheld at Moscow, Idaho. FRIDAY May 6: Boys' region one and two high school track meet will be held in WSC stadium. Trials at 10 a.m., finals at 1 p.m. Women's softball team plays in Provo against B YU.
