Good Night America star coming to WSC Award winning broadcast journalist, Geraldo Rivera, will be the convocation speaker Thursday at noon. The star of "Good Night America" will talk in the Fine Arts Auditorium. Rivera became a journalist so he could "be in a position to effectively cause social change on a massive basis." His philosophy of news and news reporting is, "I report the news as I see it. The tragedy and humor of people who live in New York City, a place so uncivilized that survival really means staying alive." He went on to say, "Sometimes, people don't want to see the kind of stories I report on because they're sad or ugly ... but these things happen just a stone's throw away." He has won numerous awards for his broadcast documentaries. For "The Willowbrook Case: The People Vs. The State of New York," he won four awards. For awards. He has received the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism award twice, the Scripps-Howard Foundation Award twice, Associated Press Broadcasters' Association four times, five Emmy Awards from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, and numerous other awards. He has been Man of the Year for two years. Champions Here are the results of the First Annual Michael Hannah Memorial Wrist Wrestling contest, sponsored by Tau Kappa Epsilon: Men 135 lbs.: Kenneth John, 1st; Hans Kallam, 2nd. Girls: Bobby Stomberg, 1st; "The Littlest Junkie" he won five Clay Reeves, 2nd. Choirs combine Weber State College is combining four choirs in concert for the "May Festival of Choirs." The performance will be Thursday at 8 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium. Admission is free. School choirs from Weber High, Viewmont High and Ogden High will perform with the WSC Chorale. Each choir will present a 15 to 20 minute program. For the finale, the four groups will combine. The Chorale this year is the one that toured Europe last summer and was well received. Their director is Ronald Wooden. Jazz band in concert by Valllolley Music reminiscent of the Big Band Era will be presented by the Jazz Ensemble in their annual spring concert tonight at 8 p.m. in the FAC. Familiar Big Band titles such as "Begin the Beguine," "Who's Sorry Now?," "Mood Indigo," "Moonlight Serenade" and "It Don't Mean a Thing If It Ain't Got That Swing" will be performed along with compositions from the contemporary era. A special number, "The Seven Stages of Jazz," will feature the tune "When the Saints Go Marching In" arranged in jazz styles which have evolved from the turn of the century until the present. It is played in variations of blues, ragtime, Dixieland, swing, bop, cool and contemporary.Steak fry Tau Theta Nu is having their annual Steak Fry on May 5 at 6 p.m. at Sandridge Park in Roy.
