"Probably the toughest opener we've ever faced at Long Beach State. ..overall, probably our toughest schedule ever. ..we've had to go to a lot of new players, and there are question marks at every position. ..it's a year of definite challenge." These comments by Weber State head football coach Dick Gwinn sum up the outlook for the Wildcat grid squad in the 1976 season. The fourteenth edition of the Wildcat football team will play a full slate of Vastly-improved Big Sky Conference teams, Division one powers Cal State Long Beach and Utah State University the road, plus two of the better Division two schools, Western Illinois and Nevada-Las Vegas. A total of 31 athletes earned their monogrammed "W" in last season's disappointing 1-9-1 campaign, and thirty of those will return. The emphasis however, is still on youth as sophomores and juniors predominate among the returnees. The major Wildcat recruiting thrust was for experienced junior college players, and most will be on hand for the .spring season to familiarize themselves with the Wildcat system. WSC Spring football practices will be held everyday except Wednesday as the weather permits beginning at 3:15 p.m. A 10:00 a.m. Saturday practice is also scheduled. The Wildcats began their spring practice on April 26 and concluded it with an intersquad game on Satuday, May 22, at 7:30 p.m. in Wildcat Stadiou. 1976 Football Schedule: Sept. 11 California St. Univ., Long Beach at Long Beach 7:30 Sept. 18 Western Illinois Univ. at Macomb, Illinois 7:30 Sept. 25 University of Nevada, Las Vegas at Ogden, Utah 7:30 Oct. 2 University of Montana at Missoula, Montana 1:30 Oct. 9 Montana State University at Ogden, Utah 7:30 Oct. 16 University of Idaho at Moscow, Idaho 8:00 Oct. 23 Idaho State University at Ogden, Utah 7:30 Oct. 30 (Open date for home game) Nov. 6 Utah State University at Logan, Utah 1:30 Nov. 13 Northern Arizona at Flagstaff, Arizona 1:30 Nov. 20 Boise State University at Boise, Idaho 1:30 UMM m JOBS QGXO ll enyuckv: Are you a sophomore?
