PUT IT ALL TOGETHER IN AIR FORCE ROTC Council approves changes in CLIC CLIC (Campus Listening and Information Center) will now be referred to as the Student Help Center as a result of a decision made by the Executive Council on Thursday. Larry Gillis, chairman of the Student Help Center, suggested the change because he felt that CLIC "has a stigma attached to it," and that it is thought of as being a "crisis intervention center." Gillis pointed out that CLIC was not a crisis intervention center although it is equipped to handle that type of situation. More activities He added that CLIC doesn't really describe the activities that the staff handles. He pointed out that the Student Help Center can help students in a wide variety of ways that the Student Help Center better describes. Media Board appointment In other business, the council appointed Wendy West to serve on the Media Board as a representative of the Signpost. West was recommended by Signpost Editor Dave Midget because he felt that she would be able to represent the views of the Signpost staff. Responding to a question from Jon Bingham, academic vice president, West said that she had never written any stories for the Signpost for which she had been paid but that she had written several letters to the editor. The council also discussed activation of the Academic Board to rewrite the Student Rights and Responsibility Handbook. Bingham who brought up the idea said that he would like to see the board made up of the Ombudsman chairman, the Executive Director of Student Life, representatives from Executive council and the Academic Assembly, and several students at large. Dormitory representative Kyle Mattson, activities vice president, asked if there should be a representative from the dormitories on the board. Bingham responded that he had thought that one of the students at large would be a representative from the dormitories. In other business, Council voted to fund up to $202.48 to send Kalleen Butters to New Mexico for an Associated Women Student's convention where she would represent several western states including Utah, New Mexico, California and Nevada. Butters said that the convention "would benefit all women student," here at Weber. The Council also approved use of the ASWSC van by the Intertribal Indian Organization for their trip to Arizona. WWA fThe World Re COMPILED FROM UPI RELEASES port The Signpost regrets to inform you that due to a sudden move by Weber State's Exeuctive Council, the newspaper's United Press International wire service has been cut off. This unannounced move took place Friday afternoon without anyone at the Signpost being informed.''This is a rather blatant attempt of censurship it seems to me as that in the sense they are telling you that they don't want national or international news in the paper because they want something else in the paper. Apparently they are telling you what they want in the paper. I as a journalist resent that kind of behavior. . ." These comments were made by UPI's Salt Lake City Bureau Chief Dusty Harvey regarding the Council's action. |
